Cinema Heritage Group
Recording & Preserving Cinemagoing History
   Home      About us

The Cinema Heritage Group (CHG) was established in 2006, bringing together cinema enthusiasts and industry experts (including architects, engineers, film lecturers, social historians and cinema operators) with an interest in the history of cinemas, to join efforts in the recording and preservation of the architectural, cultural and social aspects of cinemagoing history. The CHG operates as a charitable NGO. To join our organisation (membership is free), contact us here.

  • Carry out, circulate and encourage research on historic cinemas & cinemagoing history
  • Secure the protection and preservation of highly significant surviving cinemas
  • Establish and maintain educational and training resources relating to cinemas and film
  • Support developments in the cinema industry, including filmmaking and exhibition

Our work focuses on Malta (our current base) and Ireland (where the organisation was founded), while it is further assisting in cinema-related projects around the world, including documentation, research, filmmaking and conservation projects.

Since our inception in 2006 we have been operating as a charitable NGO (a voluntary, non-profit, non-government organisation). We are officially recognised as as such by the Commissioner of Voluntary Organisations in Malta (No: VO/0534).

We depend on the expertise and input of our members and on your kind donations.
